Stop Feeling Bad About Building A Lifestyle Business

We need to talk about the “millionaire propaganda” and the whole “build in public” culture that has taken over the internet. To be fair, this messaging has probably always been around and I just started seeing it everywhere once I launched my own business as a Google Ads Consultant.

You know the stuff I’m talking about that we see online.

It’s the constant stream of content telling you that if you aren't scaling to eight figures, hiring a massive team, and "crushing it" 24/7, you’re somehow failing. For a long time, I let that get into my head. I felt like I wasn't being ambitious enough. I needed another course or a 10k business coach. I felt like I was "settling" because I didn't want to spend my life chained to a desk optimizing spreadsheets for a global empire.

Today, I’ve finally embraced in 2026: Building a business to fund a life you actually enjoy isn't a fallback plan. It’s the win and the situation that works for me as a Google Ads consultant.

The Freedom to be Human

For me, the goal isn’t to have the biggest bank account; it’s to have the biggest life.

I want to make dinner with my family, not eat over my keyboard. I want to go for a walk when the sun is out, not when my calendar grants me a 15‑minute “bio break.” I want to pay for my daughter’s dance lessons — and the travel that comes with her passion — without feeling like I have to sacrifice my sanity to do it and be working the entire time I am gone.

That’s why I run a lifestyle business.

A lifestyle business is designed to serve you, not consume you. It’s about building a business that lets you go on a content binge, schedule everything out, and then go live your actual life while your marketing keeps working in the background. It’s freedom with structure. It’s ambition without self‑destruction.

If you want to see how this same philosophy shapes the way I approach Google Ads, I break it down in my post on how my blogging mindset translates directly into PPC strategy.

And here’s the part people don’t expect when it comes to working with me: this makes me a better Google Ads consultant for you.

Why?

Because I don’t take on clients I can’t fully show up for. I’m not chasing volume, I am not busy managing bigger clients. My goal is to empower you to build your marketing, not to make myself dependent on your retainer.

I’m not trying to scale myself into burnout. I’m intentional. If I say yes to your business, it’s because I know I can give it the time, attention, and diagnostic depth it deserves. I know I can teach you ads in a way that will work for you. You’re not getting a frazzled, overextended consultant who is managing 10 other clients, you’re getting someone who protects her energy so she can protect your Google Ads budget.

If you want to read more about Google Ads budgets I have an entire hub page dedicated to budgeting for PPC.

I also can bring more fresh ideas to your business, and I can write posts like this. I can tell you how I built my business using SEO and content and the struggle to find my place in this crowded scammy industry. This means I can relate to your struggles in a way that an agency simply cannot.

The Trade-Off: Time vs. Money

As a paid search expert, I’ll be the first to tell you: Paid search isn't for everyone. Traffic is the most expensive commodity in the world. You have two ways to pay for it: Money or Time. If you aren’t pouring thousands into ad spend every month, you have to invest elsewhere.

You need eyes on your business. For me, that shift has been moving away from the "pay-to-play" treadmill of ads and into the world of SEO and AIO (AI Optimization). AKA how you landed on this blog.

Marketing in the Age of AIO

In the AI-driven world we’re living in right now, the game has changed. By focusing on organic reach and optimizing for how AI models find and surface information, I’ve created a system that works for me 24/7.

  • The Binge: I can spend a few days intensely creating, leaning into my flow state.

  • The Schedule: I front-load the work so the "digital me" is out there doing the heavy lifting.

  • The Result: My content is working in one time zone while I’m enjoying a slow morning in another.

It Is More Than Okay

If you’ve been feeling guilty for not wanting a "unicorn" company, this is your permission slip.

It is absolutely doable to create a business that makes you happy, keeps you comfortable, and most importantly leaves you with the energy to actually live your life fully and slowly.

We don't all have to be millionaires. We just have to be free. For some businesses they want to buy traffic. Some businesses want to buy ad traffic temporarily while they build SEO, and others just want to see if ads work for them. Again all these reasons are valid and part of why I have build my Protective PPC model.

Personal Note: This post is as much for me as it is for you. I’m choosing the beach over the boardroom, and I’m choosing AIO over the endless ad-spend loop. And honestly? I’ve never felt more ambitious.
